`Jharkhand govt not opposed to CBI probe against Koda`

Jharkhand government is not averse to recommending a CBI probe into corruption charges against former CM Mahdu Koda, his successor Shibu Soren said on Monday.

Bokaro (Jharkhand): Jharkhand government is not
averse to recommending a CBI probe into corruption charges
against former chief minister Mahdu Koda, his successor Shibu
Soren said on Monday, just days after the state told the Ranchi
High Court that a probe by the central agency was not needed.

"The Vigilance Bureau is probing into the charges and
if its investigation is not satisfactory, we can take the help
of CBI," Soren told reporters when asked about the
possibility.
On January 28, the state government in an affidavit
filed in the High Court said there was no need for a CBI probe
as the investigation by the state vigilance was progressing
satisfactorily.

The affidavit was filed after Durga Oraon, a resident
of Ranchi filed a PIL seeking CBI probe against Koda and some
of his former cabinet colleagues, accusing them of amassing
wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.

The court had fixed February 4 as the next date of
hearing.

Koda is in judicial custody after he was arrested on
November 30 by vigilance sleuths in connection with a
disproportionate asset case.
Koda to appear before special vigilance court

A special vigilance court today
directed former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda and
ex-minister Kamlesh Singh to appear before it tomorrow in
connection with a disproportionate assets case.

The direction came after the court took note of the
chargesheet filed by the Vigilance Bureau.

Both Koda and Singh, who were arrested on November 30,
are now in judicial custody facing charges of amassing wealth
disproportionate to their known sources of income.

The complaint before the court was filed by a person
named Durga Oraon, a local resident.
