Jharkhand Speaker asks govt not to protect `officials`

Jharkhand Speaker C P Singh on Wednesday asked the government not to `protect` government officials and take up developmental issues seriously.

Ranchi: Jharkhand Speaker C P Singh
on Wednesday asked the government not to `protect` government
officials and take up developmental issues seriously.
Regretting over the dilapidated condition of the Town
Hall in Ranchi, Singh asked Deputy Chief Minister Hemant Soren
not to protect officials and ensure a new Town Hall was set up
in the capital.

The Speaker`s remarks came while intervening in a call
attention query raised by RJD MLA Janardhan Paswan, who asked
why renovation of Ranchi Town Hall had not been completed yet
while another opposition MLA asked why action was not being
initiated against a senior official facing corruption charges.

Soren said it could not be done as the matter was
sub-judice and that the Ranchi Municipal-Corporation had not
yet given its opinion on the government`s proposal for a new
Town Hall.
The Speaker also pulled up Soren for not coming
prepared with answers to questions raised by members
of the house and a lack of clarity in his answers.

Replying to newsmen`s query on the Speaker`s remarks
on the government, HRD Minister Baijanth Ram said "I should
not comment on the remarks by the Chair; but the government
has never protected any official."

Citing the removal of chief secretary A K Singh
yesterday in the wake of the opposition allegations against
him, Ram said "Even two officials of the education department
are in jail presently."
