Jharkhand stampede: Home Ministry deploys extra RAF battalion

Subsequent to being apprised of Jharkhand stampede situation by Chief Minister Raghubar Das, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday instructed Home Secretary LC Goyal to send an extra RAF battalion to Deoghar for better crowd and security management.



New Delhi: Subsequent to being apprised of Jharkhand stampede situation by Chief Minister Raghubar Das, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday instructed Home Secretary LC Goyal to send an extra RAF battalion to Deoghar for better crowd and security management.

"My heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed in the stampede at Deoghar in Jharkhand. I pray for speedy recovery of the injured. I spoke to CM Jharkhand Shri Raghubar Das who apprised me of the situation in Deoghar post the stampede and he asked for extra RAF deployment," Rajnath tweeted.

"I have instructed the Home Secretary LC Goyal to send one extra RAF battalion to Deoghar for better crowd and security management," he added.

The Home Minister`s action comes after at least 11 `Kanwaria` devotees, including one woman, were killed and 50 others injured in a stampede at Durga temple in Jharkhand`s Deoghar district today.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 4.30 a.m. at Belabagan, about three kilometers away from the main temple complex.
