Jharkhand to hike wage for labourers

Jharkhand has decided to increase minimum wages for the labourers from Rs 102 to Rs 150, state Deputy Chief Minister Raghuvar Das said Sunday.

Ranchi: Jharkhand has decided to increase
minimum wages for the labourers from Rs 102 to Rs 150, state
Deputy Chief Minister Raghuvar Das said Sunday.

"State labour department has started working out
details to increase wages of the labour force at the
earliest," Das, who holds finance and labour portfolios, said
at a pre-budget seminar.

Expressing concern over labourers in the unorganised
sector hit by the price rise, Das said the government took the
decision after both Centre and state government employees had
pay revisions.

"The state as well as Centre should pay attention on
reforming agriculture policy, which will help to increase crop
production and help steady prices in future," Das said.

Meanwhile, he said Jharkhand government has urged the
Centre to increase royalty in coal from the present 8 per cent
to 22 per cent or 23 per cent.

"We have already placed the request before Centre,"
Das said.
