Jharkhand to seek CBI probe in 'love jihad' case

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday said his government would recommend for a CBI probe into the case of Tara Shahdeo and Ranjeet Kumar Kohli alias Rakilbul Hussain.

Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday said his government would recommend for a CBI probe into the case of Tara Shahdeo and Ranjeet Kumar Kohli alias Rakilbul Hussain.

"We will refer the case to the CBI," Soren told reporters here.

After meeting Tara Shahdeo and listening to her side into the case, Soren said, "Shahdeo also said she sought a better investigation."

To a query by the media that names of judicial, IPS and

IAS officers have also reportedly come up in the case, Soren said since several "things" had been unfolding and Shahdeo too desire a CBI probe into the case so it was decided to recommend it to the agency.

Earlier in the day, the police got permission from a local court to take Kohli in three days remand for interrogation.

Kohli, who was arrested along with his mother in New Delhi on August 26, was produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Ranchi, which sent both of them to 14 days judicial remand.

In her FIR, Shahdeo had accused that she was subject to alleged torture, exploitation, deceit and being forced by her husband to keep secret his faith in Islam.

The police have registered a rape case against the accused.
