Kochi: A 21-year-old woman from Jharkhand, who
was brought to Kerala to work as a domestic help seven years
ago, has complained of denial of salary and torture by her
Kerala employer.

The complaint of the woman, who approached the Kerala Legal
Aid Services Authority here, has been forwarded to the
Kalamassery police for investigation, P Mohandas, KELSA Member
Secretary, and District Judge, said.

KELSA is trying to trace her relatives in Jharkhand through
a similar institute in that state, he said.

As per the statement of the woman, Romoni Papathro, she
was brought to Kochi seven years ago when she was hardly 14
years old. Her parents had been promised that she would be
given rs 500 a month for the job of domestic help.

However, she was not paid any salary and was allegedly
physically and mentally harassed by her employer, Roshini
Santosh of nearby Kalamassery, she said in the complaint.

Papathro`s employer had reportedly informed her parents
that she had left the house on her own free will few months
after she joined for work. The parents had then cut off all
ties with her.

Papathro alleged that she was not being provided food and
managed to escape from the house on May 5 with help from
neighbours. She has been sent to a relief home near here.
