Maoist gunned down, another arrested in Jharkhand

A Maoist was on Sunday killed in a fierce encounter with security personnel near Ranchi while another dreaded ultra was nabbed in Jharkhand`s Giridih district, police said.

Ranchi: A Maoist was on Sunday killed in a
fierce encounter with security personnel near Ranchi while
another dreaded ultra was nabbed in Jharkhand`s Giridih district,
police said.

In an early morning encounter near Heso village, about
13 km from here, security personnel gunned down the Maoist,
DGP control room sources said here.

The security forces headed by an ASP were fired upon
by Maoists following which a two-hour-long gunbattle followed
between the two sides, they said.

The slain Maoist has been identified as Rajesh Kumar
Munda (26) from Saida village in Tamar, about 50-km from here,
they said, adding one carbine and cartridges were recovered
from him.

Meanwhile, Lakhan Singh, a wanted Maoist who was
active in Jamtara and Giridih districts, was nabbed at a
village in Giridih following a tip-off.

A pistol and two bullets were seized from Singh`s
possession, Superintendent of Police (Giridih) A B Homker
said.
