Chaibasa: A Maoist operative who carries a reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head, was today arrested following an encounter on the borders of West Singhbhum and Simdega districts, a senior police officer said.
Sanjay Ganju alias Sanjay Bodra was arrested following an encounter between the security personnel and the Maoists, in which Ganju sustained injury in the leg, said Superintendent of Police, N K Singh.
Claiming the arrest as a big achievement, Singh said Ganju was immediately flown to Ranchi under tight security arrangement for treatment.
Asked whether he had any role in the recent jail break at Chaibasa, Singh said it was yet to be ascertained.
Apart from the Maoist-related incident that had taken place in the Saranda forest in West Singhbhum district, Singh said Ganju was also wanted by the Gumla, Simdega, Khunti district police in connection with nearly 70 incidents.
