Maoists fire on security camp

Maoists on Friday night fired at a make-shift camp of the security forces, triggering a gun battle at Barwadih in Latehar district.

The forces returned gun fire after rebels first shot
at, Latehar Superintendent of Police Kranti Kumar told
reporters.

There was no report of any loss of life, he said,
adding the two sides were exchanging fire intermittently.

The encounter ensued during a special drive launched
by the district police and CRPF in the stronghold areas of the
Maoists rebels in Maoist-infested parts of the district, Kumar
said.

However, there was no report any casuality from the
police camp so far.

The security personnel were making all effort to
cordon off the area to flush out the naxals.

The incident was took place near the spot where 11
policemen had been killed in a landmine blast triggered by
Maoists soon after they made an abortive attempt on
Independent MP and former Jharkhand speaker, Inder Singh
Namdhari near Lat village on December 3 last.
