New Delhi: NHRC will inquire into a tribal
woman`s complaint in Jharkhand apprehending threat to her life
at the instance of a senior suspended police officer who has
been facing trial for allegedly sexually exploiting her.
The National Human Rights Commission has decided to
depute its investigation team for an "on-the-spot inquiry" on
a complaint in this connection filed by the tribal woman, the
Commission said in a statement.
"She alleged that she is apprehending imminent threat to
her life at the instance of a suspended zonal IG of
Jharkhand Police P S Natarajan, who is facing a trial in a
case of alleged sexual harassment of the complainant (the
tribal woman)," it added.
The tribal woman was allegedly sexually exploited by
Natarajan, the then zonal IG in Ranchi. A criminal case for
the offence of rape was registered against him which is
pending trial in the court, NHRC noted.
The victim alleged in her complaint to the Commission
that at the instance of Natarjan she was being implicated by
police in cases of terrorist activities.
One Raghu, who was recently arrested by the police in
a criminal case, is allegedly being used to implicate her as
his accomplice. The police have obtained Ragu`s statement
accusing her as the group leader of an armed unlawful
organisation Jharkhand Army in Gumla district, the Commission
"She alleged that she is being victimised at the instance
of Natarajan so that she does not make any statement against
him in the case (of sexual exploitation) pending in the
court," it said.
Following recommendations of the National Commission
for Women, the victim has been given police protection for the
last so many months, the Commission observed.
