Chatra: One person was killed while two others were injured in firing which broke out between two rival groups during immersion of Saraswati idol in Chatra district on Saturday, police said.
Police also fired to quell the clashing groups and it is not clear whether the casualty had occurred due to shots fired by the police or from the rival factions.
Violence broke out while the procession was passing through a lane in Pathalgadha area of the district and the police had to open fire to disperse the clashing groups, Superintendent of Police Anup Birtheray said.
Two police vans were also set on fire by the mob, he said.
