Dhanbad: A CBI team on Tuesday raided the
offices and residences of senior officials of the Forest
Conservation wing of the Damodar Valley Corporation in
connection with the over Rs 8 crore plantation scam case here
and in Hazaribagh.
The offices and residences of the DVC Director of Soil
Conservation, Sanjay Kumar, and two of his colleagues,
assistant forest officer B N Jha and special range officer
Pratap Rana besides DVC Joint Director Jaideep Biswas, were
raided, CBI Inspector (Dhanbad section) K K Singh said.
The raids were conducted in Dhanbad`s Maithon,
Hazaribagh, Giridih, Bokaro districts and West Bengal`s
Bardhaman district, he said.
The CBI raids were a follow-up action after the DVC`s
internal vigilance wing moved a special CBI court recently in
Ranchi about the alleged plantation scam in Dhanbad and
Singh said the DVC`s land conservation department was
given the task of creating a 190 hectare plantation in four
villages under Dhanbad`s Nirsa block and 320 hectare in
Giridih’s Saria block.
The DVC?s internal vigilance probe found only one tree
planted at Nirsa while none was found in Giridih?s Saria
block, Singh said.
The DVC was allotted Rs 8.89 crore for planting trees
in its command areas.
