Rail services disrupted during Maoist bandh in Jharkhand

Rail services between Garwah road and Sonnagar railway stations were disrupted after CPI (Maoists) blew tracks near Kosiyara in Jharkhand during the 24-hour bandh in Palamu division called by them on Tuesday.

Medininagar (Jharkhand): Rail services
between Garwah road and Sonnagar railway stations were
disrupted after CPI (Maoists) blew tracks near Kosiyara in
Jharkhand during the 24-hour bandh in Palamu division called
by them on Tuesday.

Railway services under Mugalsarai divison of East Central
Railway came to halt after the ultras blew up the tracks under
Mohammadgunj police station in Palamu district last night, DIG
(Palamu) Prasant Singh said today.
Singh said adequate police force has been sent to the
spot and the repair work to restore the damaged tracks was
continuing on war-footing.

He said railway services were likely to be restored
soon.

The CPI(Maoists) have called for a bandh in Naxal-
infested Palamu division -- comprising Palamu, Latehar and
Garwah districts -- in protest against alleged custodial death
of Rajendra Yadav, a murder accused, on December 31 last.

Earlier, Rajendra Yadav was arrested by the police from
Chatarpur police station on December 30 last and rushed to
Sadar hospital a day after but the doctors declared him
brought dead.

The family members alleged police high handedness as the
cause behind Yadav`s death.
Yadav`s post-mortem was conducted twice after the family
members cried foul.

Meanwhile, the Jharkhand Government has ordered a probe
into the alleged custodial death of Yadav and formed a
two-member committee headed by Murarilal Meena, DIG (special
branch).

The team visited Palamu yesterday and questioned the
family members as well as the jail authorities in this regard.

The team, which also include N N Pandey, Energy Secretary
of Jharkhand, will submit its report to the state government
soon.
