Ranchi: Three years ago, Ravi Kumar Oraon
was caught on charges of impersonation during a medical
entrance test.

Devastated by the humiliation, Oraon turned the
disadvantage into advantage by finishing third among the top
ten in the Schedule Tribe Category in this year?s medical
entrance examination.

He was debarred for three years from appearing in the
medical entrance conducted by Jharkhand Joint Entrance
Examination Council on impersonation charge and an FIR was
filed in this connection, Officer-on-special duty of the
Jharkhand Joint Entrance Examination Council Ramakant Singh
on here today.

Singh said a case of fraud was filed against Ravi Kumar
Oraon after he was caught during counselling when Oraon’s
photographs on his admit card and counseling allegedly did not
match in 2008/09.

Oraon appeared the examination this year and ranked
third among the Scheduled Tribe category. A council meeting
will take a final decision on his admission which is scheduled
on August 25, Singh said.

As it was a case of impersonation and that he had no
criminal background, a lenient approach could be taken".

Asked whether Oraon would be allowed to take admission
in any of the medical colleges as he had finished third this
year, Jharkhand Tribal Welfare Minister Champai Soren said - We
are looking into it.

Oraon, who was not available for comment, reportedly
said he had learnt from his mistake and vowed to get through
the examinations through sheer hard work.
