Jamshedpur: Police has registered a case
against a Maoist squad leader of Ghorabandha for raping a
30-year-old physically challenged woman nine months ago in
Jharkhand`s East Singhbhum district.

The case was registered two days ago against the squad
leader Gulach Munda after the victim lodged a complaint with
the police, Police Superintendent (rural) Ranjit Prasad told
in a press conference here on Friday.

The victim, a resident of Jiyan under Ghorabandha
police station in naxal-hit Ghatsila sub-division, lodged the
complaint when Munda refused to marry her two days ago after
the villagers at a meeting put pressure on him, Prasad said.

The victim, who delivered a boy last Sunday, was produced
before media.

Gulach, who was involved in the abduction of Dalbhumgarh
Block Development Officer Prasant Layek a couple years of ago,
had intercepted the victim when she was returning from the
market with another woman nine months ago and raped her, he
said.

He said the victim was given Rs 10,000 as relief by
the district administration while the two schemes including
one meant to benefit SC/ST rape victims were also approved by
the Jharkhand Chief Minister.

The schemes were sanctioned after the Ghatsila sub-
divisional officer submitted a report, the SP said.
