New Delhi: Taking a strict view of
complaints of ragging in a Sainik school in Jharkhand, the
National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has
asked the Defence Ministry to submit a detailed report in a
stipulated time frame.
According to one such complaint received by the apex
child rights body, a student had attempted suicide after being
repeatedly ragged by the seniors in the army school, an NCPCR
release said here today.
Another complaint said a class VIII student was ragged by
seniors since his admission and was recently forced to do 500
push-ups.
The child now does not want to continue his education in
the school and is back to his hometown in Ranchi working in
his father's tea stall, the release said.
Condemning the incidents, the NCPCR has asked Defence
Secretary Shashikant Sharma to take necessary action in the
matter and send a factual report along with authenticated
copies of the relevant documents within a stipulated time
frame.
