Ranchi: Jharkhand Assembly Speaker CP Singh on Friday expressed wonder on why powers-that-be 'wait' to think of making effective people-friendly acts till Anna Hazare-like movements surface.

"We wait for movements by the people ... till people like Anna Hazare ji come forward to think about bills and acts," Singh said in a written speech addressed to the monsoon session of the state assembly.

He asked whether the governments would have given any thought on amendment to Land Acquisition Act, had not Noida land controversy erupted or thought about "black money stashed in foreign banks" till the people raised the issue.

Clarifying that he was not directing at any particular government, Singh, suggested to take maximum time while initiating people?s-friendly bills and members of Houses should be given sufficient time to study them so that once acts were made they could stand the test of judicial scrutiny, if such situation arose.

"If necessary, people’s opinion could also be sought on some bills," he said and disagreed contention from certain quarters that bills suggested by the people could degrade democratic system.
