Bangalore: Buoyed by the trust vote win in the
Karnataka Assembly on Thursday, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa used
a simile to answer his critics in the Congress and the JDS,
asking them to accept the verdict of the "third umpire", in an
obvious reference to the people`s mandate to the BJP.
"In cricket, two umpires will be there. If the decision
given by them is not acceptable, they can seek the
intervention of the third umpire. The decision of the third
umpire cannot be questioned. This formula is there in sport,"
Yeddyurappa said.
He was apparently trying to put in perspective the recent
Supreme Court verdict on the MLAs disqualification and the
governor`s recommendation for imposition of President`s rule
in the state.
Indirectly referring to the pandemonium witnessed in the
Assembly minutes before he moved a confidence motion, he said
"How can they (Opposition) behave like this in the session?
Let people decide."
He slammed the Opposition for demanding his and Speaker K G
Bopaiah`s resignation over the Supreme Court`s observations
while quashing disqualification of 11 BJP rebel MLAs and five
Independents who had withdrawn support to the government in
October last year.
"The orders passed by a lower court are set aside by higher
courts. Can anyone seek the resignation of the lower court
judge? The Supreme Court has given its verdict, but the
Opposition is trying to make it an issue," he said.
