Advocates Association Bangalore case adjourned to Jan 11

Karnataka HC on Tuesday adjourned to January 11 a contempt case against Advocates Association of Bangalore office bearers for writing letters to the judges on its resolution to hold a protest.

Bangalore: Karnataka High Court on Tuesday
adjourned to January 11 a contempt case against Advocates
Association of Bangalore office bearers for writing letters to
the judges on its resolution to hold a protest against
continuance of Chief Justice P D Dinakaran despite facing
land-grabbing charges.

The AAB had sent a letter to the judges on November four
last year, requesting them "not to damage" the interest of
litigants following its decision to abstain from city courts
on November nine, in protest against Justice Dinakaran`s
continuance.

Taking exception to the letter, a Division bench had
issued show cause notices to AAB President K N Putte Gowda,
secretary R Rajanna and Treasurer T G Ravi asking why criminal
contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against
them for trying to "influence" the judges.

The association, which filed its objection today, stated
that the letter did not amount to criminal contempt.

The court also sought the view of the Bar Council on the
matter and directed it to express its view whether the same
amounted to contempt, on January 11.

The matter came up for hearing before Justice Sreedhar
Rao and Subhash Adi.
