Belekeri case: CID searches 24 export firms

Bangalore/Bellary: The Economic Offences wing of CID on Thursday conducted simultaneous searches at premises of 24 export firms that have come under scanner over the disappearance of iron ore from Belikeri port recently.

The action followed a search warrant issued by a local court in Ankola in Uttara Kannada district as these firms have not produced documents required for investigation, CID said in a statement in Bangalore.

Three firms are located in Bangalore, four in Bellary, nine in Hospet, two each in Sandur and Mangalore, one each in Belgaum, Yellapur, Hubli and Udupi.

During the search, many important documents and 14 computer hard disks were seized from 15 office premises.

Four office premises were found locked and they have been sealed pending searches to be conducted later.

In respect of the remaining four premises, either known address could not be located or such firms did not exist at the known address, the release added.
