Bengaluru: Its as ironical as it can get. Rahul's Gandhi has been championing the cause of farmers and highlighting their plight but his partymen have destroyed crops for the Congress vice president's rally in Karnataka.

As per a report in NDTV, for Gandhi's rally scheduled for Saturday, crops have been cleared before harvest from land which is approximately the size of three football fields.

Reportedly maize grown on four acres of land which belonged to one farmer has been destroyed.

The crop was to be cut in 15 days.

The farmer is said to be Neelappa Hirebidari of Gudagur village, as per media reports.

Many other farmers have also been reportedly been forced to remove their crop before harvesting.

And now a stage is being put up near a village in Ranibennur in farm lands for Rahul's October 10 rally.

A report in the Deccan Chronicle said that the villagers were silent as they feared repercussions from Congress workers becasue the villages comes under Gudagur Gram Panchayat which is the native village of the Congress legislator, KB Koliwad.

Noted historian Ramchandra Guha posted on Twitter regarding the matter: “A poor farmer in Karnataka loses valuable cropland to a stage built for Rahul Gandhi to come and go.”

Supposedly, Rahul is slated to meet the families of farmers who have committed suicide due to crop failure.

Rahul will also hold a nine kilometre padyatra and the route of this march was allegedly cleared for the Congress VP's convenience.

The Congress convention will be held after the padayatra

The Congress is the ruling party in Karnataka.
