Bangalore: A 20 year-old engineering student committed suicide by hanging in his college hostel room here, police said.

The deceased, hailing from Bihar, was doing his second semester of engineering in PESIT college, police said.

They said no suicide note was found in the room where he was staying alone.

His classmates, who were questioned, said he had not fared well in his exams, which could have made him take the extreme step.

Police said the student's parents have been informed and they would arrive here by this afternoon.

As educators we should know each of our students. Young adult who commits suicide always show signs of distress in their behaviour patterns and cry out for help before they take this drastic step......so what happened here?

As educators, you should also know that not all students are the same. They are no animals who ``show sign`` before they are sad, or happy, or hungry, etc. I`m not sure if I should even consider you as an ``educator``, if you do not even know the basics of psychology. Students tend to hide these emotions from others due to peer pressure. In case of Pranay, he couldn`t talk freely to his friends of this, neither could he talk to his parents. As for the college authorities, well I believe, if you hear more from other PES students, you` d realise, to talk to college authority about your personal problems is like playing tennis with the wall. They come back at you even stronger.

PESIT ceo D Jawahar says ``You people come here to die, atleast go out and die``. I am in PESIT ECE myself. These words by him reflect the management attitude towards the students and the way they are treated. Con men with no humanity.

I think the problem is the students want to, or their parents want them join good colleges. end up doing this through management quota. But the competition is fierce and hence they don`t fare well enough, come under pressure and resort to such measures. This is why merit should be the only thing considered. He could have simply quit instead. Suicide is not the only way out. It unnecessarily brings a bad name for the college which was doing so well all these days.

overburden of studies and lack of counselling by the college is one of the common thing which is face by the students ,
