Karnataka High Court on Monday disposed of a criminal petition filed by Kannada actress Jayamala seeking anticipatory bail.
Bangalore: Karnataka High Court on Monday disposed of a criminal petition filed by Kannada actress Jayamala seeking anticipatory bail in connection with the chargesheet to be filed by Kerala police over her claim of touching Lord Ayyappa`s idol during her visit to Sabarimala shrine.
When the petition came up before Justice N Ananda, Kerala Deputy Superintendent of Police, Rajiv appeared in person and filed a letter signed by SP of the state`s CB-CID that its police did not have any intention to arrest Jayamala and they had no objection on court granting anticipatory transit bail.
At this Justice Ananda observed, "When there is no question of arrest, the question of granting anticipatory bail does not arise" and disposed of the petition.
Jayamala`s confession in public in 2006 that she in the prime of her youth had entered the sanctum sanctorum of Sabarimala and even touched the idol of presiding deity defying ban on women between the age of 10-50 years to worship in the temple created a furore among religious seers in Kerala.
