New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday criticised the spurt of racial attacks in Bangalore on people from the Northeast after the daughter of former police commissioner and MP HT Sangliana's daughter Rachel allegedly faced harassment, adding that it was a matter of huge concern that the family of such an esteemed personality had to face such an assault.
According to reports, Rachel, who was shopping in a mall, faced both verbal and physical attacks by two women, while bystanders offered no help.
"It is a matter of deep shame and a huge concern that the daughter of a former police commissioner of Bangalore faces this kind of a racist attack in that city. Sangliana was also a member of the Congress and was a MP from the city," BJP spokesperson GVL Narsimha Rao told ANI.
"If there is no security for the family of a high-ranking officer and former MP, then you can understand the state of affairs in Karnataka. I hope that the state government immediately takes note of this grave incident and takes action against culprits. Similar incidents have taken place in the past. I hope the Karnataka government takes note of them," he added.
