Bangalore: Under attack from Opposition as well as his party men, Karnataka Tourism Minister G Janardhana Reddy today met RSS leaders and is understood to have explained to them certain issues concerning mining activity by him and rallies being held on the issue in Bellary.

Reddy met RSS leaders Jayadev and Mukund here and offered explanation on Opposition Congress and JDS allegations of illegal mining levelled against him and two other ministers -- his brother Karunakara Reddy and their associate B Sreeramulu, RSS sources said.

They said RSS was unhappy over certain statements made by Janardhana Reddy and Sreeramulu after they came under Opposition attack and also on the Congress 'padayatra'.

The RSS leaders expressed displeasure over the unilateral decision by the Reddy brothers and Sreeramulu in launching a counter-padayatra and rallies across Bellary district ignoring even the advice of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.

The sources said Janardhana Reddy defended their agitation to counter the Congress' Bellary chalo padayatra, saying they were not at fault and have informed party leaders about it.

Yeddyurappa had disapproved of the padayatra launched by the Reddy brothers and Sreeramulu, saying being in government they should not have done it. He had also disapproved of Sreeramulu's action in tonsuring his head.

Sreeramulu's statement that he anticipated trouble in Bellary when the Congress padayatra entered the district has infuriated RSS and BJP leaders.

Last week, a delegation of BJP MLAs led by Excise Minister M P Renukacharya called on Yeddyurappa, pledging their support to his leadership and sought action against Sreeramulu.

These MLAs and Renukacharya were part of the dissident movement by Reddy brothers against Yeddyurappa last year but now have distanced themselves from the Bellary ministers.
