Karnataka has proposed to establish a steel hub in Bellary in about 550 sq km and also develop two ports in Tadadi and Haldipur near Ankola on PPP mode.

Bangalore: Karnataka on Saturday urged the Centre to upgrade National Highway-63 from Ankola Port City to Gooty in Andhra pradesh from the two lane to six lane under PPP (Public Private Partnership) model.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa in a letter to the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways pointed out that the total length of this highway in Karnataka is 368.60 km, with a two lane carriageway. It passes through important cities like Hubli, Gadag, Koppal, Hospet, Bellary and also the world famous tourist centre of Hampi, he said.
Karnataka has proposed to establish a steel hub in Bellary in about 550 sq km and also develop two ports in Tadadi and Haldipur near Ankola on PPP mode, with initial capacity of 34 MMT and 19 MMT per annum respectively.

The present heavy traffic movement with more than 25,000 PCUs has damaged the Hospet-Bellary-AP Border section of NH-63 requiring immediate improvements, reconstruction and upgradation to four to six lane width, he said.
