Karnataka: Bootleggers pelt stones at minister, police open fire

Police and excise officials opened seven rounds of fire in the air to disperse bootleggers who attacked them and Karnataka Excise Minister M P Renukacharya during a raid at a hooch making area at Karvi Forest.

Five personnel, including an excise inspector, were
injured in the incident when excise and police officials
conducted the raid following a tip off.

Police and excise department officials managed to protect
Renukacharya, who escaped unhurt.
Superintendent of Police Sandip Patil said nine
bootleggers were nabbed and hooch worth Rs 12 lakh destroyed.
