Bangalore: Karnataka Chief Minister DV
Sadananda Gowda, a Lok Sabha member from the state, would seek
to become a Legislative Council member.
BJP MLC N Shankrappa would resign this week to pave the
way for Gowda's election to the upper house.
The decision was taken at a meeting attended by Gowda,
BJP state unit President KS Eshwarappa, former Chief Minister
BS Yeddyurappa and senior RSS functionaries, party sources
said.
Gowda succeeded Yeddyurappa and will have to become a
member of either house of the state legislature within six
months of assuming charge as Chief Minister.
Shankrappa, elected from the Legislative Assembly, had a
tenure till June 30, 2014. Given the ruling BJP's majority in
the Lower House, Gowda would have a smooth sailing.
The meeting also decided to defer the third round of
Cabinet expansion for some time, the sources said.
