Bangalore: Karnataka government plans to
provide housing facilities to industrial workers whose monthly
salary is less than Rs 10,000, Housing Minister V Somanna
said on Friday.

The Karnataka State Industrial Investment Development
Corporation will fund the project, under which a selected
beneficiary will get Rs 50,000 subsidy, he told reporters
after a meeting with housing department and KSIIDC officials.

The government has been toying with the idea of allotting
sites measuring 20 x 30 feet in urban areas and increase it to
the size of 30 x 40 feet in case of availability of land to
the beneficiaries.

During this year, 1,000 houses each in Shimoga and Koppal
would be built and the target was to construct at least 30,000
houses annually under the scheme, Somanna said.

Under Ashraya Housing scheme, 18,000 houses are being
built this year, he said.
