Karnataka Government has released Rs 31 crore for providing drinking water in rural areas during this summer, Minister for Rural Development Jagadish Shettar said here on Tuesday.

said here on Tuesday.

171 constitencies have been granted Rs 15 lakh each for
providing drinking water, he told reporters.

Districts such as Chamarajanagar, Kolar, Tumkur,
Chikkaballapur and Bangalore Rural where drinking water
problem becomes acute in the coming months would get an
additional Rs 25 lakh each, Shettar said.

The government has set up a task force under the
chairmanship of MLAs to monitor drinking water supply, he
said.

The Minister said there was no shortage of funds for
implementing the National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme
and workers were being paid their wages, adding that so far
the govenment had spent Rs 2,400 crore under the job guarantee
scheme.

Commenting on the recent stir witnessed in Koppal over
non-payment of wages, Shettar alleged it was created by
middlemen.
