Bangalore: Karnataka Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda on Friday ruled out the prospect of the state facing early assembly elections and asserted that the BJP government would complete its full term.
Reports suggesting that the state might face assembly elections ahead of its schedule were "incorrect", he told reporters here.
Gowda`s remarks contradicted a claim by his predecessor BS Yeddyrappa who had said on May 30 that the state was likely to go in for early elections.
The Assembly polls are due early next year.
The Election Commission can hold polls in a state at least six months ahead of the schedule, Gowda said, but "the commission has to tender specific reasons for advancing the election".
He said there were no confusion in the party.
Gowda declined to react to developments in the opposition Congress triggered by the resignation of Siddaramaiah from the post of Opposition leader.
"It is an internal matter of Congress", he said.
