Rao flags off rally to mark 500th coronation of Deva Raya

warrior, poet and a promoter of fine arts.

Rao flagged off a massive rally here to mark the
beginning of state government-sponsored two-day 500th
Coronation celebration of the king.

"He was a warrior, popular ruler, poet and a promoter of
fine arts", Rao said paying tributes to Deva Raya, who ruled
from 1509 to 1529 AD.

"Though Krishna Deva Raya was a Kannadiga, he loved and
promoted Telugu language. Ashta Diggajalu (Eight Telugu
literary giants) were his poet laureates and the king himself
authored, "Amukta Malyada", a Telugu literary treatise," the
MP said.
