Right-wing activist Muthalik, 5 others arrested

Chief of Sri Ram Sene, Pramod Muthalik and five of his associates were arrested for assaulting a Bangalore University (BU) official.

Bangalore: Chief of Sri Ram Sene, a right-wing
Hindu extremist group, Pramod Muthalik and five of his
associates were arrested for assaulting a Bangalore University
(BU) official for "delay" in conducting degree examinations.

Muthalik and 25 members barged into the chamber of BU
Distant Education Director Niranjan and threatened him of dire
consequences if the examination was not held on time, Central
DCP G Ramesh said.

Muthalik and his supporters demanded written assurance from
BU to hold examination on December 26, but Niranjan declined,
he said.

In the melee, one of the associates of Muthalik slapped
Niranjan while others damaged the furniture, a TV set and a
fax machine in the chamber, Ramesh said.

Muthalik and others were demanding BU to hold examination
in Koppal, Bellary, Davangere and Bangalore centres, where it
was cancelled after mass copying came to light, the DCP said.

The examination was scheduled on December 14, but was
not held on grounds of non-installation of CCTVs at the four
centres, Ramesh said.

Niranjan lodged the complaint against Muthalik and five
others.
