Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, who left for Mangalore by
a special defence helicopter accompanied by Home Minister V S
Acharya, had to land near Hassan due to bad weather and
proceeded to Mangalore by road, an official statement said.

The chief minister visited the crash site and hospitals
where the eight survivors are undergoing treatment and
enquired about their condition.

He expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the
158 persons, including crew members, and directed the Mangalore
district administration to arrange for best treatment to the
survivors.

The Air India Express Boeing plane from Dubai with 166
passengers and crew on board overshot the touchdown point
during landing at the Bajpe airport, crashed down a cliff
and burst into flames.

The state government has declared a day`s mourning today
in memory of those who died in the crash and cancelled all
official programmes slated for today, the statement said.

The meeting of the state cabinet meeting today has been
postponed to May 24.
