Sandalwood poacher shot dead in Bangalore

A sandalwood poacher, part of a three-member gang, was Monday shot dead while another was injured when an industrialist opened fire at his farm in Hulimavu near here, police said.

three-member gang, was today shot dead while another was
injured when an industrialist opened fire at his farm in
Hulimavu near here, police said.

The 25 year-old deceased, who is a native of Salem in Tamil
Nadu, succumbed to his injuries while trying to escape while
the other two, including the injured, managed to flee under
the cover of darkness, police said.

The industrialist Jayaramu saw the gang felling a sandalwood
tree at around 1.30 am and fired in the air using his single
barrel breech loading gun to scare them. But one of the
poachers tried to attack him with a sickle following which he
opened fire, injuring him and another poacher, police said.

The injured poacher succumbed as he was trying to climb
the compound wall of the farm to escape, the sources said.
