Bangalore: Senior BJP leader N Shankarappa
Friday resigned as Member of Legislature Council in Karnataka
to pave way for Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda to enter
the Upper House.
It is mandatory for a person who is sworn in as minister to
get elected to either the state legislative assembly or
council within six months thereafter. Gowda has completed two
months in his post.
Speaking to reporters after tendering his resignation to
Legislative Council Chairman D H Shankarmurthy, Shankarappa
said he did not resign under anybody`s pressure, but on the
directive of the party.
Gowda replaced B S Yeddyurappa, who resigned after he was
indicted by the Lokayukta report on illegal mining.
