Woman ASI suspended for not acting on kidnap complaint of nun

A 22-year-old nun escaped after she was allegedly kidnapped by men in an autorickhaw here and her bid to file a police complaint delayed on jurisdictional ground, following which a woman Assistant Sub-Inspector has been suspended, police said on Thursday.

Mangaluru: A 22-year-old nun escaped after she was allegedly kidnapped by men in an autorickhaw here and her bid to file a police complaint delayed on jurisdictional ground, following which a woman Assistant Sub-Inspector has been suspended, police said on Thursday.

Police Commissioner S Murugan ordered the suspension of the ASI of Mangaluru East Police station pending inquiry for not registering the complaint of the nun and asking her to approach the jurisdictional Rural Police station, they said.

Later, a case was registered at the rural police station based on her complaint that she was dragged into the autorickshaw while she was walking towards her hostel and relieved of her of her ring, purse with cash, identity card and a cellphone on March 16.

When the autorickshaw slowed down near a speed hump, she managed to jump out and escaped, she has stated.

Police said they have registered a case of kidnapping and robbery and investigation is on.
