Yeddyurappa`s plea for protecting historical tank

Karnataka CM B S Yeddyurappa urged his Andhra Pradesh counterpart K Rosaiah on Monday to save the historical tank built in memory of renowned poet Pampa.

Bangalore: Karnataka Chief Minister B S
Yeddyurappa urged his Andhra Pradesh counterpart K
Rosaiah on Monday to save the historical tank built in memory of renowned poet Pampa and rare stone inscriptions that faced threat of
destruction due to mining activity in Kurkyla in Karimnagar
District.

In a letter to Rosaiah, Yeddyurappa said he learnt about
the issue through media reports and pointed out Kurkyla was a
repository of Jain culture and Jina Vallabha, younger brother
of Adi Kavi Pampa, in order to perpetuate the name of his
poet-brother built a tank viz, `Kavita Gunarnava Tataka`.

These stone incriptions contain 3 verses in Telugu and
Kannada besides wooden shoes belonging to Vrishabhadeva and
idols of Yakshini Bommalamma, he said.

Since the area covers ancient monuments like stone
inscriptions, historical tank and Jinalaya which relate to Adi
Kavi Pampa, there was an urgent need to protect these
historical monuments, Yeddyurappa said.
