Wayanad (Ker): An Indian national working in South Africa, who was allegedly abducted by an unidentified group demanding a ransom of Rs one crore, has been released, family sources said here on Sunday.
Nidhin K Baby, son of Baby Kalleppara, a retired school teacher in Wayanad, was released without paying the ransom after the intervention of political leaders, they said.
The 27-year-old was abducted on December 13 on his return journey to Pretoria from Johannesburg where he had gone to meet his friends.
Kalleppara had received a telephone call from Nidhin informing him of the abduction. Nidhin had also said that his life would be in danger if the family could not pay the ransom.
