Achuthanandan’s son’s petition dismissed

Kerala High Court dismissed a writ petition by VA Arun Kumar, son of former Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan.

Kochi: Kerala High Court on Friday dismissed a
writ petition by VA Arun Kumar, son of former Chief Minister V
S Achuthanandan, challenging the state government`s decision to
order a vigilance probe into various allegations against him.

The allegations were raised by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy
in a complaint to the previous LDF government when he was
leader of the opposition. Achuthanandan had referred the
petition to the Lok Ayukta.

However, when the new government came to power, a vigilance
probe was ordered into the complaint, which was challenged by
Kumar, who is the Additional Director of Institute of Human
Resources Development (IHRD).

Kumar contended that once a complaint is referred to the Lok
Ayukta under provisions of Lokayukta act, government has no
power to withdraw the case from the forum. He complained that
the vigilance probe was ordered without any notice to him.

Dismissing the petition, Justice Antony Dominic said there
was no illegality in the proceedings.
