Bitti Mohanty brought back, Kerala HC directs jail official to file statement
Kochi/Kannur: Cutting short his journey to Jaipur for being produced before a court, Bitti Mohanty, a rape convict, was on Monday brought back to the state from Mumbai as the Kerala High Court directed Kannur Jail Superintendent to file a statement regarding his transfer in violation of its orders.
Bitti was being taken to Jaipur to be produced before a Magistrate court despite the high court order restraining police from taking him to Rajasthan till December 13.
His counsel today filed a contempt petition against the jail superintendent for not obeying the high court order.
The Kerala Armed Police had taken Bitti to Jaipur by the Kurla Express at around 8.45 PM on Dec 6 to be produced before the Jaipur Metropolitan court today, his counsels Advocate N Narayanan and Advocate Nicohlas Joseph said.
Despite being informed by the high court registrar regarding the court order that he should not be taken to Jaipur, bitti was sent to Jaipur, they said.
However, after being asked by Kerala police to bring him back, the Kerala Armed police ended their journey and returned this morning from Mumbai with Bitti.
The high court was informed by the government pleader that the accused had been taken back to the Kannur jail.
The court had earlier directed that Bitti, an accused in the Alwar tourist rape case, should not be taken to Jaipur till Dec 10. This order was extended till Dec 13 by Justice Harun-Ul Rashid.
Bitti, who was arrested from Kannur on March 8 on charges of impersonation, forgery and cheating after it was found that he had managed to get a job as trainee officer in a branch of State Bank of Travancore under a new name Raghav Rajan, had approached the court against his transfer to Jaipur.
