In a bid to protest against the incident, the BJP has called for state-wide hartal from 06.00 am to 06.00 pm tomorrow.

The victim had received injuries on his head and neck and had died before reaching the hospital, party state president, Kummanam Rajasekharan, said.

In 2002, the deceased youth's father Uttaman, was killed allegedly by the CPI(M), he said.

Pinarayi is the hometown of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Kannur has witnessed a series of attacks on political workers in the recent past.

A CPI(M) activist and toddy shop worker, Mohanan (40), was murdered by a six-member gang at Pathiriyad in the district two days back, with CPI(M) pointing fingers at RSS for the attack.

Both of these murders took place in the Assembly constituency of Dharmadom represented by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

A tense situation is prevailing in the area following the incident.
