Thiruvananthapuram: BJP national secretary
P Muralidhar Rao on Monday said both the Centre and the state of
Kerala had failed to evolve a concrete policy to revive the
agriculture sector.

"We have become a food importing country due to the
government`s neglect of the agriculture sector. This will
affect our future food security and the consequences of this
policy will be disastrous for the nation," Rao said,
addressing reporters here.

He said this year`s Kerala budget also did not have any
package for farmers, while it had many proposals for other
sections of society. In states like Gujarat, Bihar and Punjab,
the governments lay stress on programmes for farmers along
with industrialisation, he said.

Reports of farmers` suicides were not coming from these
states as the governments there considered agriculture as the
core sector and provided adequate support to their cause.

On the corruption issue, Rao said BJP would take the
issue at the national level. "Everyday, one scam or the other
is being exposed, be it 2G spectrum, S Band or CWG. The BJP is
firm on its demand for a JPC probe into the 2G spectrum scam,"
he said.

Opposition Leader in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj will
attend the concluding function of the `Kerala Raksha
Padayatra` led by BJP state president V Muraleedharan here on
February 26.
