Christmas celebrated in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: Christians in Kerala on Tuesday joined the faithfuls world over in celebrating Christmas with religious fervour and gaiety.

Special prayers and midnight mass were held in churches with large number of people attending it.

Cardinal Mar Baselios Cleemis led the Christmas liturgy at St Mary`s Malankara Syrian Catholic Cathedral Basillica, Pattom, here on the Christmas eve.

Sumptuous feast was an important feature of the occasion in Christian homes apart from delicacies like cakes and cookies.

Christian houses were decorated with stars, cribs and glittering Christmas trees.

Hotels across the state had also geared for Christmas with special Christmas lunch and buffet dinners. Bakeries did a roaring business during the last one week.

Christian community in Kerala make up about 24 per cent of state`s 3.2 crore population.
