Kottayam: A section of the Kerala State Road
Transport Corporation employees has announced a 24-hour strike
beginning midnight on Tuesday night in support of their demands
including wage revision, LDF convener Vaikom Viswan said.

The UDF government had not considered their long pending
demands and the strike notice was given well in advance,
he told reporters here yesterday.

Viswan said the government was accusing the workers of
causing inconvenience to Sabarimala pilgrims during the
pilgrimage season.

The KSRT Employees Association, owing allegiance to CITU,
had called the strike. It was forced to resort to go on strike
as government had failed to respond to its demands, he added.

Other demands included purchase of new buses for
Sabarimala season and permanent employment for temporary
workers.
