Thiruvananthapuram: Congress in Kerala on Tuesday accused CPI(M) and BJP of fostering a political nexus against the ruling UDF in view of the by-poll in Privom assembly segment.

If the two parties were making common cause against the UDF, their leaders should be honest enough to admit that to the people instead of making it a covert political affair, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala told reporters here.

"If they are sailing the same boat, let them admit to it instead of keeping it a secret," Chennithala said.

He said the Congress saw this "unholy nexus" seriously and would expose and oppose it as that posed a danger to the state's polity and society.

The Piravom seat in Ernakulam district, fell vacant following the death of Kerala Congress (Jacob) leader and former Food Minister TM Jacob.

The by-election is seen as the first open political trial of the Oommen Chandy Government which came to power in May with a slender majority of 72 seats in the 140-member state assembly.
