Cong should make stand clear on `rice at Rs 2 per kg` scheme

Kerala Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac said it was on the complaint of Congress MLA TN Prathapan that the EC banned the implementation of the government decision to provide rice at Rs 2 per kg to all ration card holders.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Finance Minister
T M Thomas Isaac on Saturday said it was on the complaint of
Congress MLA T N Prathapan that the Election Commission banned
the implementation of the government decision to provide rice
at Rs 2 per kg to all ration card holders.
Addressing a press conference here, Isaac said the
Congress should clarify its stand on the scheme, meant to
provide rice at cheap rates to APL as well as BPL families.
Dismissing Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy`s statement
that no funds had been set apart for the scheme in the budget,
he said a sum of Rs 88 crore had been allocated. It would not
be difficult for the next government to set apart Rs 450 crore
annually for the scheme, he said.
