Congress forms panel to decide candidates for Kerala polls

With the Assembly elections in Kerala approaching fast, the Congress on Tuesday constituted a 35-member election committee to identify probable candidates.

Kerala approaching fast, the Congress on Tuesday constituted a
35-member election committee to identify probable candidates.
Party heavyweights from the state, including Central
Ministers A K Antony and Vayalar Ravi, Leader of Opposition
Oommen Chandy and PCC chief Ramesh Chennithala are the members
of the committee.

Former PCC president K Muraleedharan, who was inducted
into the party last month after six year`s suspension, has
also been included in the committee approved by party chief
Sonia Gandhi.
Central Ministers Mullapally Ramachandran, K C
Venugopal and K V Thomas and MP P C Chacko are also its
members.

Elections to the state`s 140 Assembly constituencies
are to be held on April 13 and the results would be announced
on May 13.

Congress leads the coalition United Democratic Front
in the state which will take on the ruling CPI (M)-led Left
Democratic Front, which has been in power since 2006.
