Thiruvananthapuram: CPI(M) Politburo has
endorsed the Kerala unit's decision to expel its Kannur district secretary P Sasi on charge of moral turpitude.
The politburo, acting on behalf of the Central Committee, approved the decision taken by the state committee on July 2, the party said in a statement here.
Sasi was removed as district secretary of the CPI(M)
bastion Kannur on complaints of "moral misconduct" lodged by
some of the party workers themselves.
The state secretariat of the CPI(M) had initially mooted
suspension of his party membership for one year. But the state
committee, to which the matter was referred, pressed for his
expulsion from the party.
Known as a loyalist of state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan,
Sasi had also served as political secretary to former chief
minister late E K Nayanar.

Achuthanandan, who had taken a hard position against Sasi
right from the start, termed as "correct and expected" the
expulsion.
