Palakkad: Congress-led UDF opposition in
Kerala today accused the LDF Government of trying to shield
the racket that worked behind grabbing of large swathes of
tribal land in Attappadi area in the district for a
mulitnational wind energy farm.
Inaugurating a march organised by UDF demanding restoration
of alienated land, Congress leader Oommen Chandy said the
Government`s decision of forming a high power panel headed
by Chief Secretary was meant to cover up the farm.
It was strange that the government had ignored the report
of the district collector which clearly showed that there
had been grabbing of tribal and forest land through fraudelent
means. The formation of the higher power committee was a ruse
to protect the "land mafia" that worked behind the scarm,
Chandy said inaugurating the march from Anathara to
Nallasingam in the tribal area.
Chandy alleged that the statements issued by the CPI-M over
the scam exposed the party`s eagerness to shield the mafia.
IUML leader P K Kunhalikutty, Socialist Janatha (Democratic)
state president M P Veerendrakumar, R Balakrishna Pillai
(Kerala Cong-B) and other leaders of the UDF constituents
addressed the protesters.
